New guidance for visitors following historical BusinessNews links.
Looking for the original BusinessNews demo? This page now offers a practical migration guide.
Build an editorial site around readable stories
A news site needs a clear route from its home page to section pages and individual stories. Start with a small set of descriptive categories, a useful search, and article pages that show the headline, author, publication date and main text without competing distractions.
If your publication uses photo stories or galleries, keep captions and credits with the images. Give each story a stable address and explanatory text; a gallery alone gives readers little context.
Inventory before changing a theme
- Back up the database, uploads and theme files, then work on a staging copy.
- Record article addresses, category archives, image galleries, menus and widgets. Identify any content created by a plugin or theme-specific shortcode.
- Test a maintained replacement with a long article, a short update, a gallery and a category page. Check headings, image sizing and navigation on mobile.
- Convert theme-specific layouts into ordinary editor content where possible. Keep publication dates accurate and retain author attribution.
Keep incoming story links useful
Retain each article's address when its subject stays the same. When a story must move, send its old address directly to that story's new address with a permanent redirect. Avoid sending every missing story to the front page: a reader following an old headline expects that story.
If a story cannot be recovered or responsibly rewritten, show a helpful missing-page response rather than suggesting a different article is the original.
